TOPIC: Independent Contractors Are Not My Employees

At this month's Member-to-Member Morning Connection, Rebecca Kellner, HR Consultant, VP Compliance Officer with Associated Benefits and Risk Consulting will present Independent Contractors Are Not My Employees.
 Construction industry professionals are very familiar with assessing safety risks and mitigation of those risks. But what about assessing and reducing HR risk? Join us for this lively discussion on wage & hour and employee vs. independent contractor classification. We’ll provide a framework to understand the basics of these concepts and then dive into recent updates/proposals to these laws. Time permitting, we’ll walk through a case study to identify real-life issues in the construction industry.

 

Rebecca Kellner offers practical guidance and helps employers make informed decisions about HR practices and benefits compliance. Kellner is passionate about helping clients simplify the complicated and advises employers on complex issues involving leaves of absences, accommodations and discrimination. She also partners with clients on a proactive basis, such as with early intervention of claims and management training. She is a regular speaker on a variety of HR and leadership topics. 


While in private practice, she focused on defending workers’ compensation claims and handling Medicare-related issues arising from those claims. Previously, she interned with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and for a plaintiff’s employment law firm.
