The Appleton Habitat ReStore is a unique retail store with a mission! We sell new and gently used home improvement materials to the public at discounted prices. All proceeds from the ReStores benefit Habitat for Humanity’s affordable housing programs.

The Store Associate will work at one or both of Appleton’s Habitat ReStores, maintaining the back room, sales floor and common areas, ensuring a clean, safe and organized work environment and monitoring in-coming donations. The Store Associate will work closely with our wonderful group of volunteers and the generous community members who donate their building materials to the ReStore.

If you enjoy working in a retail/warehouse environment, have a good driving record, and love to work side-by-side with volunteers and donors, this is the job for you! The work hours are Monday – Saturday and will vary based on the donation flow into the ReStore.

Direct Reports: Volunteers working in a variety of positions in the ReStore
Status: Non-exempt

The Store Associate maintains the back room, sales floor and common areas in an orderly manner while ensuring a clean and safe work environment and excellent donor, volunteer and customer service.

  • Evaluate the condition/acceptability of incoming donations, and ensure that policies are followed regarding unacceptable items.
  • Clean and price incoming materials, following established pricing procedures and criteria.
  • Coordinate the flow of incoming materials either into the store or a designated processing area to ensure adequate product available for purchase.
  • Act as a steward for our volunteers to ensure a pleasant work experience, providing training and supervision to volunteers in a considerate and fair manner.
  • Load and unload vehicles receiving or delivering materials to/from the store.
  • Regularly communicate with the appropriate ReStore staff regarding progress, suggestions and issues.
  • Ensure that all areas of the store and surrounding areas clean and safe, including cleaning of the bathrooms, breakrooms and sales floor when needed.
  • Maintain the security of the back room, instituting appropriate policies to minimize theft. 
  • When requested, drive or assist the drivers in moving ReStore merchandise.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures and ensure a safe work environment for volunteers, customers and donors.
  • Ensure quality customer, volunteer and donor relations, and address comments and grievances in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


This is a seasonal position and hours will vary based on the time of year.  Shifts will vary, typically Monday through Saturday.


  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Friendly and courteous with good customer service skills
  • Able to work in a retail/warehouse environment, and receive training on and safely operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks and forklifts. 
  • Able to receive training on and safely operate a 24’ box truck with a lift gate.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Salary: $11.50 /hour
